What We Do
ReDelicious is DC's food lab co-op - we turn food waste into delicious community wealth - operating in the cracks of capitalism. Every week, we divert and re-distribute food that would otherwise go to waste from farmers' markets, local restaurants, catered events, or anything extra that people want to share and we make sure to find another home if no one takes it. Then we gather to co-create a community educational and abundant experience around eating, cooking, preserving, redistributing, cultivating, and foraging delicious food.
We are also building and investing in a kitchen lab and culture library - a set of equipment, ingredients, assets, land, and biological cultures for food production, preservation, fermentation, cultivation, and other food-related experimentation projects, including agroforestry (fruit and nut trees), fungi, and solidarity economies.
Through educational workshops, social events, culinary experiences, and collaborations with local food businesses, nonprofits, and individuals, ReDelicious programming encompasses a range of creative and experimental food techniques, highlighting the skillset of our Workers and those in the broader community.

History of ReDelicious
We were founded in 2022 by a group of friends with overlapping interests in food justice, fermentation, mycology, foraging, and lots more. We began regularly gleaning leftover food from farmer’s markets - with the help of Food Rescue US - to host a neighborhood distribution at a home in Mt. Pleasant, with a goal to not just give away food but to educate and facilitate community empowerment in a social space. The word spread, and we outgrew our normal gathering spot and decided it was time to formally organize. What started as a Sunday stoop hang where neighbors gathered to give away and repurpose food that would otherwise be wasted, organically grew into the food lab co-op it is today. We’ve been growing fast and have lots more history to write. Get involved today.
